How to Download Birth certificate online

A birth certificate is an official record of a child’s existence. Birth certificates are a valid document provided by the government which is required to avail various facilities by the government. A birth certificate is an essential document for obtaining a passport, voter’s id, driving license, etc. Even forgetting school or college admissions one should submit the birth certificate. As per the rules in India, the event of birth is to be registered with the Gramapanchayath or Municipality or Municipal Corporation. If a child’s birth is not registered, then the child may get denied from the right to an official identity, a recognized name and a nationality.

Documents required for Birth Certificate:

For applying a birth certificate several documents have to be submitted and they are as following:

  • Proof of birth issued by the hospital or clinic where the child is born.
  • Parents’ identity proof for verification.
  • Parents’ birth certificate.
  • Marriage certificate of parents.

Additional information including:

  • Place of birth
  • Gender
  • Date and time of birth
  • Name of child (Under the Provision of Section 14 of the Act, a birth certificate can be obtained without the name of the child. In such cases, the name can be entered by the concerned authority without any charge within 12 months.)

After applying for the birth certificate with the required documents, the authority will do verification. Then the certificate will provided. One can download the certificate easily through the government website; it is a certified copy along with barcode which can be used as an authoritative document. The below mentioned are the steps to download the birth certificate easily:

  • Go to the Sevana website (official online site for civil registration in Kerala).
  • Select the ‘Registration of Births & Deaths’.
  • Go to the ‘Certificate Search’ link. Select your district, local body type and Local body then click submit button.
  • Another page will appear in which, select the year of birth.
  • Provide some other details to complete the search.
  • Click on the search result button. You will get the Birth certificate in the next screen.

In any case, if you couldn’t get the birth certificate through online, you need to visit the Panchayat, Municipality or Corporation and apply in person.
